This was a bit of a riddle wrapped in a mystery – the nose offered some light, bright, attractive notes (lemon puffs, vanilla, green grass, nectarines and a furniture showroom) – but we also found deeper, bass notes of old sea-chests, Plasticine and Bisto gravy. The palate was warm and comforting; dark toffee and treacly textured sweetness with welcoming woody spice (cinnamon apple pie, spice cupboard, dunnage warehouses). After water, the nose acquired shell-on peanuts, caramel and polishing cloths. The taste was now a triumph of nutty sweetness (walnut fudge, crème caramel, pecan pie) with a mere suggestion of salt providing interest.
